Aviation and the Global Atmosphere Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Footnotes for Summary for Policymakers

1. "The ultimate objective of this Convention and any related legal instruments that the Conference of Parties may adopt is to achieve, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Convention, stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at such a level that would prevent dangerous interference with the climate system. Such a level should be achieved within a timeframe sufficient to allow ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate change, to ensure that food production is not threatened and to enable economic development to proceed in a sustainable manner."

2. The final stage of the five basic stages of technology transfer (assessment, agreement, implementation, evaluation and adjustment, replication) as defined in the Report as a combination of actions that lead to the deployment of a given technology, once transferred, to meet a new demand elsewhere.

3. See Technical Summary and Chapters 3, 4 and 5 of the main report.
