Figure 4. 39 | Zero emissions commitment (ZEC). Changes in (a) atmospheric CO2 concentration and (b) evolution of global surface air temperature (GSAT) following cessation of CO2 emissions branched from the 1% per year experiment after emissions of 1000 Pg C (Jones et al., 2019; MacDougall et al., 2020). ZEC is the temperature anomaly relative to the estimated temperature at the year of cessation. ZEC50 is the 20-year mean GSAT change centred on 50 years after the time of cessation (see Table 4.8) – this period is marked with the vertical dotted lines.
