As Communications Manager, Katherine is primarily responsible for the preparation and management of the launch of the WGI Sixth Assessment report to the media and public. She works with IPCC Authors, Bureau members and the TSU to develop impactful messages to increase the accessibility and impact of the WGI assessment. She also works closely with the IPCC Secretariat to refine and execute a communications strategy to reach targeted audiences through a variety of communications efforts
Katherine has worked in climate science communication since 2008, when she started as a science writer at the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Since then she has worked in scientific communication roles both in the US and internationally. She spent five years at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria. Most recently she served as the Communications Director for the NOAA California Sea Grant program, based at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She holds a Masters degree in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California and was a AAAS Mass Media Fellow in 2007.
