Opening of the Sixty-fourth Session of the IPCC

The opening session of the meeting took place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. Delegates were addressed by

• Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.  [Remarks]
• Jim Skea, IPCC Chair  [Remarks]
• Ko Barrett, Deputy Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization. [Remarks]

Delegates were addressed by video messages from:

• Inger Andersen, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) [Video message] [Remarks]
• Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) [Video message] [Remarks]

The opening session was moderated by IPCC Secretary, Abdalah Mokssit.
