Opening of the Sixty-fourth Session of the IPCC

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be meeting for its sixty-fourth Plenary Session in Bangkok, Thailand, from 24 to 27 March 2026.

The meeting is hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and the Royal Thai Government.

Opening session

The opening session of the meeting will take place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, at 09.00 a.m. Bangkok time (UTC+7) at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. Delegates will be addressed by

  • Jim Skea, IPCC Chair
  • Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
  • Ko Barrett, Deputy Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization.

Delegates will also see video messages from:

  • Inger Andersen, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
  • Simon Stiell, the Executive Director of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
