WCRP/IPCC Co-sponsored Workshop on Earth System High Impact Events, and Tipping Points and their Consequences

The IPCC and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will co-sponsor a workshop on Earth System high impact events, tipping points and their consequences scheduled to take place from 26 to 28 November 2025 in Paris, France.

The co-sponsored workshop  will gather leading experts from various disciplines around the world to build consensus and tackle pressing questions about high-impact events, tipping points, and their repercussions. It  will be held ahead of  the first joint Lead Author Meeting for the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) – a gathering of all the authors of the three Working Group contributions to the AR7  from 1 to 5 December 2025- to ensure the outcomes can feed directly into it.

Over the course of three days, the meeting will assess and enhance  scientific understanding of the risks associated with Earth System high-impact events, tipping points, and their outcomes. It will offer IPCC authors and Bureau members a unique chance to engage with leading experts, gain new insights  on these complex topics, and foster scientific discussions, networking, and collaboration across the three  IPCC Working Groups.

A particular focus of the meeting will be  on ensuring strong participation from researchers from the developing nations  and incorporating diverse perspectives, especially from authors selected to lead and contribute to the specific  chapters of the Seventh Assessment Report and the associated WCRP assessment on high-impact climate events, tipping points, and irreversible regional impacts.

The WCRP-IPCC workshop will be held at Sorbonne Université – Campus Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. Attendance is by invitation only.
