Dr Kopal Dhandhania is the Senior Science Officer at the Working Group III Technical Support Unit for the seventh assessment cycle.

Dhandhania has over 15 years of experience in research, focusing on energy, climate change, equity, and policy analysis across academic, non-profit organisations, and the private sector. She was a Research Consultant at Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and has led projects on policy implementation in India’s energy landscape.  At Ahmedabad University, she has worked on research projects on the scope and potential of CCS and Net Zero Scenarios in collaboration with government departments. At the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), she has led national projects with diverse stakeholders to map the renewable energy ecosystem, create livelihoods, and develop a business model framework for viable renewable energy in rural India. She received her PhD Thesis titled “Reconciling Justice in Transition away from Coal” from the Global Centre for Environment and Energy (GCEE), Ahmedabad University, a post-graduate degree in master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Bangalore and a graduate degree in Psychology, Political Science and Economics from Banaras Hindu University
