Xin Tian is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer at the Technical Support Unit (TSU) of IPCC Working Group II. In this role, he supports the Co-Chairs, TSU staff, and author teams in applying AI to the preparation of the IPCC AR7 reports. His responsibilities include identifying and implementing AI applications that can strengthen literature discovery, information processing, and knowledge synthesis, while promoting the responsible and transparent use of AI across other IPCC activities.

Prior to joining the Working Group II TSU, Xin Tian worked for more than a decade as a researcher, data scientist, product owner, and lecturer in hydroinformatics in the Netherlands, Singapore, and China. His professional experience spans artificial intelligence, real-time control, and flexible engineering design, particularly with applications to water systems. In parallel with his IPCC role, he serves as a Senior Data Specialist (0.2 FTE) at the International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC), operating under the auspices of WMO and UNESCO-IHP.

Xin Tian holds a Ph.D. in Water Management from Delft University of Technology (2015) and a B.Sc. in Mathematics (cum laude) from East China Normal University (2009). His interdisciplinary academic background supports his work at the intersection of AI, data science, and environmental research.
